#AWPOWERFIFTY: Mukondi Ralushayi

What motivated you to become an entrepreneur OR take your career in the direction you did? Is having your own business OR this role you are in something you always wanted?

I've always had an entrepreneurial bug, which stemmed from a strong desire to solve various problems from a young age. But what motivated my business partner Nkgabiseng Motau and I to eventually leave our 9-to-5 jobs and become entrepreneurs was a desire to fill a gap and bring a new voice to South Africa's creative industry.

Which woman has positively impacted you in your career/business? And what is the one lesson she taught you?

I have been fortunate to be mentored by Dr. Sizakele Marutlulle, whose principles and values I greatly admire. She has helped to define the type of leader I hope to be. She reminds me constantly to remember my power, particularly in rooms and conversations where I might be overlooked due to my age, gender, and race.

How do you define success?

The freedom to wake up and do what you love
